This Church is the most antique from USA and is located in Old San Juan Puerto Rico.
The Church of San Jose in Old San Juan is constructed by the years 1532 -1735 by the orders of the Dominicos. The actual name of the church was given by the Jesuitas when they took the monastery by 1865. I have to say I never saw this Church inside so I'm happy to hear that is finally open.
The Church of San Jose is the second most antique from USA. It was closed for reconstructions for almost 20yrs and finally open this May 2021 its open for public. The soil of the cathedral was donated from Governor Juan Ponce de Leon, and he was the first of being buried there but then move to the next Cathedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista. In the Church of San Jose there are other important people buried like Jose Campeche a famous Puerto Rican painter and many of the first Government and the family Guilarte of Salasar firt people who live in the Island.
When I enter the 16th Century Church, I was amaze by the beauty I saw history in every corner of my eyes, the walls show the past and present. The new chandeliers in octagon they look so delicate and beautiful. The arcs from the side chapel are so well structure I love that you can see the history, old bricks & the walls.
The second chapel a side from the main chapel it has all the catholic windows with the story of Jesus, love every single window but one caught my eye you can see past and present in the window it just shows how many battles, hurricane, earthquakes have this cathedral survive.
When I saw the paint wall from Beato Carlos Manuel I was so happy he is our first and only Beato in the Island of Puerto Rico. You can see his museum on the Cathedral of Caguas; Dulce Nombre de Jesus he is buried in that Cathedral.
